IELTS Writing 2020 : Topic Environment ( Causes and Solutions Essay)

It is widely known that despite cars damage the environment, their manufacture and their use continue to increase. Why is the case? How can this be controlled?

It is generally the case that air pollution is serious problem facing humankind to date. Although people have widely acknowledged the negative effects of automobiles on their living environment, they keep on making and using it excessively. There are some potential reasons related to this trend, but many possible measures can be used to prevent it.

To begin with, many plausible reasonable grounds are leading to this situation. One of the main reasons is the flexibility of traveling by cars. In other words, this mode of transport does away with the hassles of having to book tickets, like trains or buses. As a result, commuters can go to work, shopping, and follow other pursuits at their convenience without depending on fixed schedules of public transportation systems. Another contributing factor is that private automobiles can bring a great sense of pleasure and comfort. To be more specific, people can also have touring holidays whenever and wherever they desire with their cars. Especially, some car models can be innovative with accommodation and other facilities to better serve people during their traveling.

However, some feasible measures could be used to tackle the problem of increased car production and use. The most effective solution could be stricter taxation policies. For example, governments should impose a particularly higher tax rate on vehicles with high emissions while providing the highest cost-benefits for consumers choosing a low-emission car model. Another practical approach should be raising the awareness of using alternative public transportation among people. For instance, there could be compulsory education programmes or regular public campaigns which aim at helping both youngsters and adults understand the potential harms of overusing cars and the benefits of the alternative means. By doing this, it is hoped that people will have more environmentally friendly travel choices and behaviours.

In conclusion, the flexibility and sense of pleasure are the two main driving forces that contribute to the constant use of automobiles. However, the problem can be handled by higher taxation actions and public awareness-raising, described above.
