I would have said that one of the most serious environmental problems today is of course pollution. It’s a very pressing green issue and if you travel to any of the large cities in China, for example, you’ll find that there is very bad air pollution and there is a layer of smog (khói mù) hanging over the cities. It’s just air pollution, there is also water pollution. in many parts of the world, the quality of the water is not good because rivers have been contaminated (polluted) by all sorts of industrial waste, by chemicals and fertilisers (hóa chất/phân hóa học). And what we need to do is to recycle our waste and take care of the planet and try use renewable resources (năng lượng tái tạo) where we possibly can.
When we’re the discussing the environment, it’s important not to forget that our actions have an impact not only on us but on the natural world and other species. So, for example, certain species are now endangered (bị nguy hiểm) because of our actions. it’s not just because of hunting, but because we have destroyed their natural habitats: they do not enough food or anywhere to live. If we carry on in this way, the biodiversity of the planet is under threat (nguy cơ/đe dọa).
What’s the greatest threat to the Earth today? I’d have to say it’s probably a combination of global warming and the greenhouse effect. I don’t understand all the science behind it, but I understand it’s to do with the build up of gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere, which means that the planet is slowly but steadily getting warmer. and one of the results of this is that the polar icecap is melting and the levels of the oceans are rising. And it’s caused I understand by deforestation, particularly of rainforests (rừng nhiệt đới) and particularly in the Amazonian Basin. And what this means is that we may be doing harm to the planet and the future of the planet for our children and our children’s children looks really rather bleak.

Developments in technology have brought various environmental problems. Some believe that people need to live simpler lives to solve environmental problems. Others, however, believe technology is the way to solve these problems. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
The improvements in technology currently bring about harmful effects on the environment. While some people believe having simpler lives is the only solution, I would argue that technological advances can help to tackle these environmental problems.
On the one hand, it is believed that individuals need to live simple lives and rely less on technology. The first suggestion is that people should walk or cycle rather than drive cars. This is because the current number of cars being manufactured and used is increasing, which causes high levels of exhausted fumes and makes air pollution become serious. Additionally, people should try to reduce their consumption of electricity so that the exploitation of natural resources such as fossil fuels or nuclear power can be minimised. An example of this idea is the annual event called Earth Hour where everyone is asked to turn their lights off for sixty minutes.
On the other hand, I believe the developments of technology can greatly contribute to environmental protection. Firstly, because of those improvements, people are able to come up with ways to recycle materials such as paper or glass, which reduces the problem of waste disposal. Secondly, technology can also help to create electricity using renewable resources. For example, many countries in the world have built plants that utilise solar energy to generate power. As a result, it is not necessary to rely on non- renewable resources, and people can create electricity without significantly damaging the environment.
In conclusion, while some people think that they should live simpler lives to prevent environmental issues, I would argue that these problems can be dealt with by technological improvements.
Many people say that we have developed into a “throw-away” culture because we are filling up our environment with so many plastic bags and rubbish that we cannot fully dispose of. To what extent do you agree with this opinion and what measures can you recommend reducing this problem?
It is believed that many people have the habit of disposing plastic bags and rubbish without considering environmental issues it may cause/result in/lead to. In my opinion, I do totally agree with this idea and intend to propose some possible solutions to deal with the problem.
There are a number of reasons why the environment has become increasingly polluted/contaminated with an excessive amount of waste. First of all, as the explosion of population, needs for daily life have demanded a huge amount of goods, therefore the enormous quantity of garbage has emerged subsequently. Furthermore, people tend to send “unwanted” things to second-hand shops or just simply throw them into trash cans whenever they purchase new products. This largely contributes a significant volume of rubbish to the environment. Last but not least, food processing companies have deliberately packaged goods by single- use-only containers which could not be recycled; accordingly, these bags have remained intact in piles of waste.
However, I contend such problems can be solved by the effort of both individuals and the government. The primary measure would be maintaining people’s habit of segregating organic waste material and un-biodegradable ones. Simultaneously, manufacturers try to recycle reusable materials such as glass, waste metal, plastic and so forth to utilize them in other industries. Such procedures are likely to reduce the waste load to the environment significantly. The other tactics would be government’s implementation plans to encourage people in protecting the environment by considering the way to reuse and repair their old items instead of throwing them away and purchasing new ones.
Having taken the issue into account, I once again affirm that we have been producing waste materials more than ever before. However, the proposed integrated solutions could be offered to tackle the problem.
There are many extinct animals’ species in the world. Some people think we should protect animals from dying out, while others believe we should spend more time on problems of human beings. Discuss both sides and give your opinion.
The rate of extinction is now greater than at almost any point in history and this is important not just for the species that are dying out, but also impacts humans. The loss of species not only reduces the understanding, diversity and beauty of the planet, but also has the potential to create an unstable ecological environment. In addition, there is no reason environmental problems cannot be addressed alongside other human problems. In this essay the importance of protecting animal species will be discussed.
It is important to protect animal and plant species from dying out due to human activity as their loss means that the genetic history of that species will be lost along with the opportunity to study and understand the world better. In addition, the world would be a far less interesting and beautiful place without the many now endangered species such as giant pandas, tigers and polar bears.
Of even greater concern is that the loss of species creates the risk of creating an ecological environment that is unstable, with a small number of species dominating the planet as they become free from predators leading to an environment that lacks genetic diversity and becomes vulnerable to diseases or natural disasters. In addition, the lack of diversity could slow the recovery from such disasters.
Although, there are many other human problems in the world to be solved including, poverty, political instability, wars and pollution, people should not ignore environmental issues. It is possible for societies to attempt to address many problems simultaneously and all issues that threaten the long-term stability of the planet should be addressed urgently.
In summary, maintaining the diversity of the planet is critical for human survival and should be dealt with along with many other important problems.
